The entire country has been placed under weather warnings as Storm Ashley is set to unleash gusts of up to 120km/h

"Storm Ashley will bring very strong to gale force and gusty south to southwest winds, coupled with high spring tides," states the updated warning which will take effect from midday on Sunday and which remains valid until 8pm on Sunday.

A Status Yellow rain warning is now in effect for seven counties as Storm Ashley is due to make landfall. The warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry and Waterford is in effect until 9am tomorrow. A separate Status Yellow wind warning is now in effect for most of Ireland ahead of Storm Ashley making landfall.

Our first named storm of the season is set to rapidly intensify this weekend with strong winds leading to possible disruption of Northern Ireland. Storm Ashely could bring gusts of up to 70mph along coastal areas. The Met Office has issued a weather warning for strong winds on Sunday which could bring down trees, branches or power lines.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning ahead of Storm Ashley for the north-west of Scotland on Sunday, as well as a yellow warning for the entirety of Scotland and Northern Ireland, and parts of north-west England and Wales. The amber warning will be in force from 9am on Sunday until midnight, and the yellow between 3am and midnight.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning on Sunday for wind across Cumbria.
