The man accused in Saturday night’s mass shooting in Southport made his first court appearance Monday afternoon in Brunswick County.

B efore being charged with several counts of murder in connection with a mass shooting in Southport, 40-year-old Nigel Max Edge had been in combat and crossed paths with a popular singer.

Alongside Stein, law enforcement agencies like the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the U.S Coast Guard, the Oak Island and Southport Police Department all stood in-front of the community.

Southport Police Chief believes the shooting at the American Fish Company was a "targeted location," and that the suspect acted alone.

Oak Island Police apprehended a person of interest in connection with shooting at South Yacht Basin on Saturday night

Oak Island Police Chief Charlie Morris said that Edge, an Oak Island resident, was a man who law enforcement was familiar with.
