FDA issues warning over oysters and clams possibly contaminated with norovirus
The FDA is issuing multiple advisories for oysters and Manila clams that could be contaminated with norovirus, a serious gastrointestinal illness. In the case of oysters from British Columbia first recalled in California, a notice says the product should not be consumed or distributed and should be marked as "not safe" and "don't touch."
Oysters and clams recalled over norovirus risk
The Food and Drug Administration issued advisories for oysters and manila clams over possible contamination with norovirus. On Dec. 16, the FDA issued an advisory for oysters and clams harvested in Washington and announced a recall on Dec. 18 for oysters harvested in Canada.
SF shellfish company recalls oysters due to norovirus contamination
San Francisco company S&M Shellfish Company has recalled oysters due to multiple confirmed illnesses caused by norovirus contamination. The recalled oysters are sold as Fanny Bay, Buckley Bay and Royal Miyagi Oysters.
