Patience is a virtue. This seems to have been the theme for the New York Mets front office this offseason. After beating out a lot of competition for superstar Juan Soto, the Mets are in prime position to retain another all-star on their roster for 2025.

Last month, former Mets infielder-turned-MLB insider Carlos Baerga reported that New York had extended an offer to the 30-year-old slugger. According to Baerga, “Alonso is expected to sign soon,” per a translation of his Spanish tweet, but the offer seemingly will come closer to the Mets’ desires: shorter-term, higher average annual value.
