JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Eighty-four Indonesians freed from scam centers in Myanmar arrived in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, late Friday, part of a massive repatriation movement that is straining regional resources.

The BBC understands that conditions in the camps are unsanitary, food barely sufficient, and many of the freed workers, like Mike, are in poor health. He is suffering from panic attacks, after working for a year in a scam centre where he was routinely beaten.

Eighty-four Indonesians have returned home after being freed from scam centers in Myanmar. Part of a wider crackdown involving Thailand, Myanmar, and China, thousands have been rescued. Repatriation efforts for over 360 Indonesians continue as authorities work to combat global scams exploiting vulnerable workers.
