Italy's Jonathan Milan set a world record as he took gold in the men's individual pursuit at the Track Cycling World Championships in Denmark, breaking the previous record Josh Charlton set during qualifying earlier on Friday.

He went into an early lead, and though Charlton looked for the briefest time like he was staging a comeback, Milan was on a charge and claimed the gold a new world record in a time of 3:59.153, compared with Charlton’s 3:59.304 this morning.
