Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, was released from prison on Thursday, a day after she was granted bail in a case linked to the illegal sale of state gifts, ending about nine months of imprisonment.

The wife of Pakistan’s imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan was released from a high-security prison in the garrison city of Rawalpindi on Thursday, a day after a court granted her bail in a graft case.

In the days before the February polls, Bibi was convicted of graft and illegal marriage alongside opposition leader Khan in what he claimed was a campaign to sideline him from the vote

Pakistani authorities have announced that Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been released from prison. On Thursday, October, 24, Pakistani media reported, citing a former lawyer of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, that Bushra Bibi has been released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

She walked out of Pakistan’s Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail where she was held for 9 months from January 31 this year. An Islamabad accountability court had sentenced her and with husband, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan to 14 years in prison for receiving and selling state gifts during Khan’ tenure.

The former first lady was released from the jail under tight security in Pakistan's Rawalpindi where Imran Khan is also incarcerated along with his sisters.
