OBX prepares for Hurricane Erin
DARE COUNTY, N.C. — While Hurricane Erin isn't expected to make landfall, Dare County leaders are still urging residents to take their warnings seriously. Evacuation orders are in place for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, where significant storm surges are expected.
Powerful Hurricane Erin to bring high seas, big waves, rip currents and rough surf as it moves between the United States and Bermuda.
Dangerous coastal impacts from Hurricane Erin will peak along the East Coast on Wednesday and Thursday as the storm passes offshore.
In anticipation of the impacts of Hurricane Erin to be felt all along the East Coast, but particularly the Outer Banks and even some parts of Hampton Roads, evacuation orders have been issued for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands in Dare County.
NCDOT officials said "given the winds, wave heights and storm surge forecast, it likely won't be enough" to keep NC 12 from flooding at the Outer Banks.
