As a significant winter storm approaches the Houston area, snow, sleet and ice are all becoming certainties as the temperatures decrease and conditions are forecasted to be more frosty than expected.

The potential for sleet or ice during next week’s freeze is becoming more certain as the weather forecasts for the coming days become clearer.

Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing on Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service. As of Friday, Houston's forecast also called for a likelihood of snow on Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Houston-area officials are urging caution among residents as the second arctic front of 2025 is set to bring a hard freeze and chances of wintery precipitation across the region starting on Jan. 20.

But here’s the exciting part: if you’re hoping for a snow day, Monday into Tuesday morning are the times it would happen. Both the American and European models are showing snow in the forecast! The low is in the perfect spot. The blue in the below image is snow and it’s right over Houston. Snow totals should range from 2″-6″ in Houston!

The Houston area is seeing an increasing chance that a mix of wintry precipitation—including snow—is headed in its direction. Space City Weather meteorologist Eric Berger said there is a growing possibility (about a 50-50 chance) of snow or sleet beginning next Monday night and Tuesday.

Models indicate the likelihood of another arctic blast early next week which will likely bring the coldest air so far this season and the coldest air in about one year! We will likely go under a "COLD WEATHER ADVISORY" for early next week.
