MOUNT PLEASANT, New York (WABC) -- A park in Westchester County has been closed to visitors due to concerns over avian flu after a dozen dead Canada geese were discovered in a pond. The dead birds were found at a pond inside Thornwood's Carroll Park in Mount Pleasant on Sunday.
Avian flu likely killed dozens of dead geese found in Otisco Lake and Seneca River
DEC received 12 dead geese collected from Otisco Lake and sent them to Schuler’s lab. Initial test results are “presumptive positive for HPAI,” DEC said, referring to highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly known as avian flu or bird flu. HPAI is also suspected to have recently killed scores of waterfowl on Seneca Lake.
