A construction project on one of Newark Liberty International airport’s three main runways wrapped up nearly two weeks early, so the Federal Aviation Administration should be able to ease flight limits one of the three major airports in the New York City area,

Flights at Newark airport are set to increase later this month following the completion of construction on one of busy hub’s runways, the top US aviation safety regulator said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it plans to soon boost the number of flights at Newark Liberty International Airport after a runway reopened on Monday nearly two weeks ahead of schedule. Acting FAA Administrator Chris Rocheleau said the runway is already being used for departing flights but it will take a few days to certify it for arrivals before the arrival rate can be increased from 28 to 34 flights per hour.
