The Pittsburgh Pirates have now used their top two draft picks on high school pitchers from California. After taking Seth Hernandez in round one, the Pirates took fellow right-hander Angel Cervantes from Warren High School with the 50th pick.
The Pirates selected a pitcher with the No. 6 pick in the 2025 MLB draft, taking highly touted right-hander Seth Hernandez out of Corona High School in California. Hernandez was heralded as one of the best players in the draft, and he's already drawing some comparisons to another standout pitcher in Pittsburgh; Paul Skenes.
Seth Hernandez could join an elite young Pirates rotation in a few years, after Pittsburgh took him sixth overall in the 2025 MLB Draft.
