Hiya, I’m looking to book a holiday to the JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa for the beginning of December. I’ve read a few reviews and it has said the Mai Khao beach can be a bit rough and not swimable. As I am going with my two year old I just wanted to know how the beach is in December ?

Yes i do feel that Mai Khao beach can get pretty choppy waves in certain seasons. I saw many families with very young toddlers on Surin beach and Bang Tao beach. The waves there were less ‘rough’ when we were there in April.

Beaches are good at that time of year. From May through to September they can be quite rough and not swimmable. We have pulled up and swum at many beaches all the way along that side of coastline and have not had an issue and except for the one time in September when surf was just too rough. We usually only swim quite close to the shore and have not been exposed to rips or anything but with kids safest option is to swim where they have lifeguards
