Bringing Gear in (and out!) of Mexico | Bloodydecks - BDoutdoors
We flew Volaris out of TJ. We had a 8-1/2' tube and 6-fully loaded reels on our checked baggage. Paid an extra Sport fee for the rod tube $46 I think. No issues. You can not carry on loaded reels. All I can say is make sure you buy insurance! One year I had them break 5 rods only to find out they covered NOTHING because I didn't have insurance.

Marlin on west coast/mexico | Bloodydecks - BDoutdoors
Mag Bay Outfitters, Bob and Diane Hoyt. Volaris airline from TJ thru CBX bridge , to Loreto. He will pick you up and drive you in a van to Lopez Matello at the north end of Mag Bay. Tell him it is a bucket list thing. I looked into Los Suenos and it looks awesome, but it seemed to run almost double the price of Mexico. Is it that much better?

Cabo airport rod carrier warning and Los Barriles report 6/24
At the CBX bridge entrance on the US side, Volaris airlines has a check in right there as you walk in. Nobody checks your rod tube. You just surrender it with your checked bag and you are on your way. Later in the airport , you walk throgh customs with your carry on stuff. There you are checked by customs.
